The New Music Model.

I have decided to stop making albums the same old way, and today am introducing a new process for the release and packaging of my songs.

You all know the usual method. Simplifying here, but basically an artist writes and demos a bunch of songs, then someone (the artist, producer, label, etc.) decides which ones fit together well, and those get recorded and packaged as an album. This is a process that can take years.

The modern world does not like years, it likes moments. And although I have a nice pile of songs recorded, and was planning to release them together as an album later this year, the whole time I was getting ready to do this I was writing more songs. I have written four in the past two weeks alone. Last week I realized that the method of getting the music out there could also reflect the continuous nature of the creative process itself.

Okay, then. From now on, I will release a new song on my Bandcamp page on the last Friday of every month. Each single will be available for purchase (and streaming, yes) at a set price for its month of release, after which it will be available at the popular Name Your Price level (i.e., once the next single is released). There will be a cool cover design for each song, too. At the end of a year, I'll produce a limited edition of physical CDs with all twelve songs, in addition to the resulting online compilation. A limited edition poster will be printed and available at that same time.

So let's see how this goes, and if it goes well, the new model will continue until...well, until it doesn't, I suppose.

So there you are. My big news. Find me on Facebook or Twitter and tell me what you think.
