29 March - Gig Day

Couldn't for the life of me remember when I'd last played a solo show, so I searched through my old blog posts until I found mention of it. The date was October 23, 2019. Been a minute, as the kids say. Plenty of gigs since then, but none of them just me and a guitar and a mic and my songs. I'm very much looking forward to this afternoon. It's a new room for me, and it'll be the first time out for the new Martin as well.

25 March - Pedals Update

Some obvious similarities here. On top is my four-pedal main board, with its Wampler Sovereign, my current fave gain stage. Below that is a board configured for solo shows. I do not need a dirt pedal when I play alone, just a bit of atmosphere. I really like the combination of the JHS Reverb and Boss Digital Delay, so here they are again. The Boss tuning pedals on each board also function as power supplies for the other pedals.

At lower right is an older model Boss tuner, which is used as a standalone in the studio. Any other stompboxes you might have noticed in previous posts have all been traded away. I do not collect pedals. The eight shown here are the only ones I own right now. 

21 March - Counting Down

A week from tomorrow I will play my first show of the year, a solo plugged-in acoustic gig at a local venue. And when I say "local," I could walk to this place from my house in about ten minutes. I'm going there tomorrow, in fact, to see and hear a friend play.

In only slightly related news, I am changing the reverb pedal situation on the main board, having decided on a more simple effect than the modulated 'verb that's been on there. Had it for about a year, but I'm finding that I rarely use the modulations. They muddy up the signal, and I'm all about clarity these days. So I'll trade it in, and someone else can enjoy it. It's a good effect, just not for me.

16 March - Not Quite Spring

I had meant to post something in here on March 1st, to mark Meteorological Spring, then on the 4th for March Forth, and then on the 10th for Mario Day, and on the 14th for Pi Day, and then it was the Ides on the 15th and I could have talked about Roman History or salad. But here I am on the 16th which isn't a clever play on words at all. What I ought to be doing is designing a poster for my upcoming solo acoustic show on the 29th. It'll be my first solo performance in forever. I can't remember when the last one was. How embarrassing. Anyway, looking forward to it.
